“That every man grow in his relationship with Jesus Christ through an effective men‘s

ministry in every congregation.”

This is an invitation for you to join in prayer each week with men throughout the ELCA

at noon on Wednesday... or when you are able. We are praying for revival/renewal for men

throughout the ELCA and beyond. This includes the men in your life, for the support of

ministry with men church wide.

Matthew 17:1-9: 1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother

of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured

before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said

to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three

sheltersone for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."  5 While he was still speaking,

a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom

I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard this,

they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them.  "Get up,"

he said. "Don't be afraid." 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9 As

they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you

have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

Questions:  What was one mountaintop experience in your life? It has been six days

since Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ and Jesus predicted his own death. What is

that information important for what happens next? Why was Peter’s response inappropriate?

How did you come to realize that Jesus was the One above all others you should listen to?

(Scripture verses and questions from the Master Builders Bible for Men)

Our prayer for all of us as leaders is that our spiritual vision would be so clear

that we would see “Jesus only”.

Men, once again the purpose of these weekly encounters is to pray for renewal, and

revival in the church- beginning with men. Let us be relentless in our prayer that

this ministry will be one that supports that renewal/revival among men.

PLEASE PRAY:

Special prayers this week:

- Martin Rosowski, the Managing Director of the “Men’s Work” of the Evangelical Church

of Germany, and the Executive Secretary of the European Forum of Christian Men will be

in our office this week discussing, among other issues, how we might have a closer

relationship to our brothers in Europe. Martin and I will also attend the annual Denominational

Men’s Ministry Network of North America meeting in Indiana. Our work with men extends far

beyond our ELCA- pray for ministry with men in this country- and throughout the world.

- Pray for the LMM Development Council as we meet later this week.

For the men in your life and beyond- that they might come to a deeper relationship

with Jesus.

For our financial support, short term and long term as the need is critical right

now; so that we can do the ministry with men God has called us to do in empowering congregations

to reach men for Christ.  Please prayerfully consider a year end from yourself and/or your

congregational men’s group. Our fiscal year ends January 31.

     For events:

o     The One Year to Live retreat and Coming of Age events being developed by LMM.

o     The Lutheran Men’s Gathering in Omaha, August 1-3, 2008

For the LMM Board, the Young Men’s Ministry Council, the LMM Development Council

and our synod and congregational men’s leaders.

Finally- please pray that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our

focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.

On behalf of our leadership- thank you so much for your prayers!
