“That every man grow in his relationship with Jesus Christ through an effective men‘s

ministry in every congregation.”

This is an invitation for you to join in prayer each week with men throughout the ELCA

At noon on Wednesday... or when you are able. We are praying for revival/renewal for men

throughout the ELCA and beyond. This includes the men in your life, for the support of

ministry with men churchwide.

John 10:1-10: 1 "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate,

but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The man who enters by the gate

is the shepherd of his sheep.  3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen

to his voice.  He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out

all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they

do not recognize a stranger's voice." 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not

understand what he was telling them. 7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, and

I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the

sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and

destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Questions:  As a child, how did your favorite pet respond to your voice? What do the shepherd,

sheep pen and stranger represent? What does Jesus mean by likening himself to a gate for the

sheepfold? What was the turning point for you in terms of hearing “God’s voice” and responding?

(Scripture verses and questions from the Master Builders Bible for Men)

Our prayer for all of us as leaders is that our spiritual vision would be so clear that

we would see “Jesus only”.

Men, once again the purpose of these weekly encounters is to pray for renewal, and revival

in the church- beginning with men. Let us be relentless in our prayer that this ministry

will be one that supports that renewal/revival among men.

PLEASE PRAY:

For the men in your life and beyond- that they might come to a deeper relationship

with Jesus.

For our financial support, short term and long term continues to be a critical right

now; so that we can do the ministry with men God has called us to do in empowering

congregations to reach men for Christ.

     For events:

The One Year to Live retreat and Connecting with Younger Men:

Changing Church Culture events being developed by LMM.

o     The Lutheran Men’s Gathering in Omaha, August 1-3, 2008

For the LMM Board, the Young Men’s Ministry Council, the LMM

Development Council and our synod and congregational men’s leaders.

Finally- please pray that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our

focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.

On behalf of our leadership- thank you so much for your prayers!

Note: We will be out of the office Monday and Tuesday of this week for an off site

Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission staff meeting.
