Annual Assembly
St Paul Lutheran Church
The meeting was called to order at 12:25 PM on February 18, 2006 by the President, Karl Vermace.
Pastor Charles Eckert, Pastoral Advisor, said the opening prayer.
President Karl Vermace extended greetings to all who were attending the assembly and gave a big Thank You to
the men of St. Paul's for the assembly they had put together.
Bishop Ray Tiemann extended greetings to the men in attendance.
The minutes of the last assembly were approved by the attendees.
Treasurer's Report was presented by Frank Pennington and approved by the attendees.
Old Business
1.Church-wide Building for the Future Campaign: Dr. Charles Oestreich thanked Mr Lanny Brehmer for printing the
brochure and then gave a synopsis stating that there has been a considerable amount pledged and it looks like the
goal of $1,500,000.00 will be reached. He further went on to say that this campaign has not hurt the giving for the
usual operating expenses. (Open)
2.Cross Trails Capital Campaign: Al Sunday briefed the assembly that this campaign was receiving good support
and $600,000.00 of the $1,500,000.00 has been received/pledged at this time. As a result of the donations and
pledges work has started at Camp Ebert. (Open)
3.Swing Project: Karl stated that the project is progressing well. He further went on to explain that it the dream to
one day have a swing built by one of the groups in every assisted living home in the synod. (Open)
New Business
1.Finance Committee Report and Recommendations: Al Sunday presented the Recommendations of the committee
to the assembly. The recommendation to close the Endowment Fund and use the money to pay the remaining
funds needed to complete the Camp Chrysalis project was not approved. It was determined that the Endowment
Fund would be closed but the money from that account would be donated to the Building for the Future Campaign.
The Budget submitted by the Finance Committee was approved to include the establishment of a 100 Man Club. A
committee of 3 men will be established to oversee this club and draw up the rules for review and approval of the
Executive Board (this will remain Open for report at next assembly). The funds received from the offering at the
morning worship service will be applied to the amount still owed to complete the Camp Chrysalis project and there
will still be $1000.00 plus required to complete the project.
2.Bible Distribution Program: Karl briefed the assembly that he had received 90 Bibles and they were being
distributed to the Conference representatives. He also stated that there were strict guidelines to follow this time
such as recording who the Bibles were given to etc. There were 6 Bibles per church, for five churches in each
Conference. Each conference was supplied a list of the congregations whose pastors had indicated that they
wanted to start or re-start a Men's ministry in the congregation.
3.Dr Charles Oestreich presented the Layman of the Year Plaque to Mr Earl Koester of Peace Lutheran in New
Braunfels for the support provided to his church and to Mission Builders..
4.Election of Officers: Al Sunday was nominated for position of Vice President and Leroy DeHaven was nominated
for the position of Treasurer. Both were elected by acclimation to a two year term.
5.Frank Pennington received a certificate from Karl Vermace thanking him for his service as the Treasurer of the
organization for the last four years.
6.Charlie Schwartz presented a swing to St Paul Lutheran Church to say thanks for the outstanding work they did in
preparing and hosting the assembly.
7.Karl Vermace briefed the assembly that the 2007 Southwestern Texas Lutheran Men in Mission Assembly would
be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin.
8.Dennis Hickey asked that groups pass on info on what is happening in their congregations and conferences so
that he can publish it on the Men in Mission web site.
9.Bishop Tiemann officiated at the Installation of the Officers.
10.The meeting was adjourned with the Lords Prayer.
